Is PokerStars.com Becoming Too Dominant?

Though there exist a lot of awesome online poker rooms, Pokerstars.com is becoming the industry leader, and fast! Dan Stewart of pokerscout.com says Poker Stars has a market penetration of 35%. This means more than 1 in every 3 on line poker players are PokerStars customer. Do we have to be afraid that Poker Stars becomes gets a monopoly? YES The reason so many poker players choose PokerStars.com proves that their marketing and software are exellent. But in the end a monopoly is always bad for the customer. For example: In January Pokerstars prohibited their sponsored players to participate in the TV show "Poker After Dark". NO I prefer to play at Pacific Poker, my brother likes Everest Poker better. Everybody looks for other features in poker rooms. Pokerstars.com will thus never be able to make everyone play there. What's about to happen now? The best scenario is a consolidation in the poker sector. Because of the economic crisis, little poker sites will suffer. Full Tilt Poker, the 2nd largest online poker room, might buy small competitors to boost its market share. If this doesn't happen pokerstars.com might get a monopoly. Pokerstars would get too much power and poker players will suffer because of this. There would be little reason to keep offering high bonuses. You can forget about rewards and loyalty points to retain players. To prevent this worst case scenario we should play at various poker rooms. There are plenty of great sites to play poker at like Party Poker, Pacific Poker, Full Tilt Poker, Everest Poker, etc. The alternatives are infinite... for now.
